Finnish craftsmanship,
design that lasts.
The stone has been here for millions of years, and now it takes on a whole new purpose as part of your home.
The inside is ground and polished by hand, and the surfaces are sealed with a professional sealant that is food-safe once fully cured and lasts several years. Nothing is painted or covered: the colour and the pattern belong to the stone.

- Handmade
- Every stage is done by hand. Not a single stage is outsourced.
- Finnish stone
- The material is Finnish natural stone: hard, dense types such as granite, gneiss, migmatite and diabase.
- One of a kind
- The shape comes from the stone, not from a mould. No two basins are alike.
Basins
Finished basins
9 pieces
The basins are sold as single pieces. Once one of them is yours, it is gone from the catalogue, and nothing identical takes its place.

The maker
I make every basin myself, from start to finish.
I choose the stone, level it, hollow out the bowl, and grind and polish the surfaces by hand. Not a single stage is outsourced.
I don’t paint or cover anything. The colour and the pattern belong to the stone, and they only show once the work is done. There is no way of knowing in advance, and that is the best part of this work.
The work
From boulder
to basin
Six stages in working the stone. Stone can’t be rushed: take too much at once and it answers by cracking. A small basin takes a couple of days, a larger one can take more than a week.
- Stage IChoosing the stone

Choosing the stone
Most of the stones I look at stay where they are. A stone has to be dense enough not to absorb water, and it must not have cracks. Once a stone passes, the shape of the basin is sketched onto it.
- Stage IILevelling

Levelling
Height is taken off the base and the base is levelled. The flat base is the surface the basin will sit on, and it also makes every stage after it more precise.
- Stage IIIHollowing

Hollowing
The shape of the basin is cut with a diamond blade, and then the bowl is hollowed out by hand with a chisel, piece by piece. This is the slowest and heaviest stage: one chisel blow in the wrong place splits the stone. The broken basins are kept at the workshop as a reminder.
- Stage IVGrinding and polishing

Grinding and polishing
The chisel marks are ground away and the surface is checked from every side. Polishing goes from coarse to fine, from 50 grit to 3000 grit, finished with tin oxide where needed. This is where the raw stone turns smooth and its own colours first come through.
- Stage VMineral cleaning

Mineral cleaning
The outer surface of the stone is cleaned of mineral residue. This stage does not change the stone, it reveals it: after cleaning, the stone’s own shades and patterns show on the outer surface too, which is left clean and natural.
- Stage VIFinishing

Finishing
The drain hole is drilled, the maker’s mark is sandblasted into the basin and the surfaces are sealed. The sealant is a professional product that is food-safe once cured and gives the stone a wet-look finish. Nothing is painted or covered.

For business
For projects that need something you won’t find anywhere else.
In a commercial space a stone basin does two things: it stands up to heavy use, and it stays in people’s minds, because there is nothing like it anywhere else. For a project with several basins, they can be made from the same type of stone if you want a unified look, or each from a different stone. Even basins of the same type of stone each come from their own boulder, so the shade and pattern vary: they are siblings, not copies.

- Series orders
- Several basins for one project. They can be made from the same type of stone or each from a different stone, depending on what the project calls for. Shade and pattern vary from basin to basin even when the type of stone is the same. That is a property of natural stone, not a flaw, and it is worth knowing before you order.
- Sized to the project
- I size the drain hole and the position of the tap to your fittings before I start. I don’t make overflow holes, because the stone could crack. Other wishes we discuss project by project.
- Finnish material
- Finnish natural stone. No imported stone, no composite and no coating.
- Built for use
- The stone doesn’t scratch or fade. A professional sealant protects the surface for several years.

FAQ
What people usually
ask about a basin
01Does a natural stone basin hold up in use?
It does. I make the basins from hard types of stone and seal the surfaces with a professional product that stops water soaking into the stone. Once cured it is food-safe. The protection lasts several years.
02What does installing the basin require?
A sturdy countertop, a tap and a drain valve. The valve is tightened through the drain hole of the basin, which fixes the basin to the countertop and seals the joint. A silicone suitable for natural stone also goes between the basin and the countertop. The drain hole comes ready drilled.
03How do I clean the basin?
With mild soap and a soft cloth. Don’t use acidic cleaners, descalers, strongly alkaline products (such as degreasers and ammonia) or abrasive sponges, because they eat away the sealant.
04Can a basin be made from my own stone?
It can. If there is a suitable boulder in your garden or on the shore at your cottage, it can become an indoor basin or, say, a bird bath for the garden. Send me a few photos of the stone and I’ll tell you straight whether it can be worked.
05How long does delivery take?
A ready-made basin ships within three days of your order. Custom work takes 2–4 weeks from when a suitable stone has been found. Finding the stone is the slowest stage of the work and can’t be scheduled in advance.
06How is the basin delivered?
The basins are sent by post. They are heavy, so the delivery method and price always depend on the address: tell me where the basin is going and I’ll work out the delivery and its price. You can also collect the basin by arrangement.
Tell me what kind of basin you are looking for.
I answer every message myself. If you are after a particular size, shade or type of stone, say so. If there is a stone in your garden you would like turned into a basin, send me a few photos of it.
